World Well-being CeremonySunday, June 28, 2020 | 9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. via ZOOM Place: Vermont Zen Center
At the end of the first half of the year and the last day of the June intensive, we will have a ceremony of well-being for the world. The ceremony will be a variation of the World Peace Ceremony, beginning with a chanting service. This will be followed by a reading, then by a group recitation of the names of all the world’s countries along with a short prayer—“May all be well in [name of country].” The recitation will be broken into nine sections (one section per page), each of which will begin with a short reading. Each section (page) ends with: “May all be well on Earth!”
DOWNLOAD the nine-page Countries of the World by Region here. You will need to refer to this for the ceremony.
The chanting service begins with the nub of the Metta Sutra:
Lead Chanter: May all beings be at ease!
All: Whatever living beings there may be;
Whether they are weak or strong, omitting none,
The great or the mighty, medium, short or small,
The seen and the unseen,
Those living near and far away,
Those born and to-be-born—
May all beings be at ease!
Let none deceive another,
Or despise any being in any state.
Let none through anger or ill-will
Wish harm upon another.
Even as a mother protects with her life
Her child, her only child,
So with a boundless heart
Should one cherish all living beings;
Radiating kindness over the entire world:
Spreading upward to the skies,
And downward to the depths;
Outward and unbounded,
freed from hatred and ill-will.
Please join us on this special day. All are welcome.
